Why Artsthread is a great platform

Artsthread is a great website and source of inspiration for creative individuals. I've been using it since the beginning of first year studying Fashion and Textiles by entering competitions or researching the work of others (drawings, interpretations, designs and portfolios). It's a place where industry competitions, jobs and student portfolios can be posted and shared.

Each year I have entered a competition and this has allowed me to take part in other design projects outside of college and allowed me to keep creating and developing ideas independently. Through this
I have certainly seen an improvement in my work through page layouts, font, design development, drawing and the overall work quality from when I started in the first year.
  • Year 1: Mama's and Papa's stroller competition

I can see that the font was very basic, the layouts weren't very imaginative and that there is too much writing on the pages.
  • Year 2: Diversity (Set as a brief for second year).

Moodboard is more thought through, as well as better flats and wording on the pages.
  • Year 3: Schofield Watch competition

This is probably one my favourites because of the drawings and use of photoshop and illustrator to achieve the mood board and overall look of the pages.

I hope to continue entering competitions and looking at other people's work and portfolios online for inspiration when doing mine. I will also keep a look out for jobs and opportunities that may arise from the website, especially later in the third year.
