My Pre-collection of fashion print references the traditional blue and white prints
inspired by Chinese Ceramics combined with elements of Indigo and Shibori dyeing
through a contemporary method of digital printing. Shibori was something I previously experimented with in the second year and something I wanted to take further briefly within the work.
The colours
story originates from Indigo dyeing using hues of blue mixed with an accent of gold to bring richness to a traditional, yet modern collection. Print shapes
and ideas are taken from traditional Chinese ceramics. These are a mixture of hand
drawing, mark making, combined an exploration of hand printed tassels using
screen print. The process of Shibori and Indigo will allow to experiment firstly
with hand dyeing and then to develop the techniques digitally to form a repeat
pattern. Hand printed and handmade tassels will permit the overall collection
to have a combination of digital and hand printing to be showcased throughout
the final samples.
Hand and digital will be a mixture in this project.
Hand:
- Dyeing fabrics to get blue shades for palette
- Printing tassels
- Hand Pleating (F. Ciment)
Digital
- Complete digital prints
Pleating will be incorporated within the collection to bring
unique texture, layers and a three-dimensional element to the digital print
work.
Six Final
Fashion ideas will be inspired by Japanese Kimonos made contemporary.
I will begin to research Kimonos and start to develop ideas to base my range on.

I am very excited by the combination of hand and digital work and combining them because it will make the collection hopefully look very unique. Combining this with hand embellishment will add richness to the collection, which I hope to develop into my final major project.
